2026: In the Summer of 2026, WRAFT applied for five (5) additional air monitors from MassDEP, who had continued their program providing PurpleAir PM 2.5 air quality monitors to communities. MassDEP approved this grant application on August 3, 2026. Two of the monitors will go to replace those that did not make it through Winter '25/'26. One will hosted by Heritage Residents Association. One will be hosted in the neighborhood across from Westfield Middle School. The final monitor will be hosted up on the North side where Residential zoned properties are in close proximity to Industrial zoned properties.

2024: In the Spring of 2024, MassDEP posted another grant offering and WRAFT applied for ten (10) monitors. WRAFT was awarded the grant and monitors were set up in neighborhoods and areas on North Road, Lockhouse Road, by the High School, on East Mountain, off of Union St., off of Meadow St., South of the airport runway, off Root Road, on Springfield Hill, and near Crane Pond. 

2021: In the Summer of 2021, the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) began an air sensor grant program to help monitor fine particulate matter (PM2.5).
In February 2022, the City of Westfield was awarded nine (9) air monitors and installed them on city-owned properties: DPW on Sackett St., the Tech Center near the airport, the Police Station on Washington St., the Fire Stations on Broad Street and Southampton Road, Westfield Technical Academy on Smith Ave., Westfield Intermediate School on Southampton Road, the Westfield Senior Center on Noble St., and one at the Olver Transit Station.
