PFAS Blood Testing Information
Out-of-Pocket PFAS Blood Testing
:
  • Eurofins US 
  • Quest Diagnostics Lab ($350) One can go directly to a Quest Lab and order and have blood sample taken to measure 9 PFAS
  • EmpowerDX provides an at-home self-collection PFAS blood test that measures 16 PFAS compounds. 

Health Insurance Covered PFAS Blood Testing:
  • For those seeking coverage through health insurance, Quest Diagnostics and LabCorp offer PFAS serum/plasma test. Use the following codes ensure accurate billing and processing with your provider:
    • Possible ICD 10 Diagnostic Codes: 
      • Z77.098 contact with and exposure to other hazardous, chiefly nonmedicinal, chemicals
      • Z13.88 an encounter for screening for a disorder due to exposure to contaminants.
      • Z77.111 contact with or suspected exposure to water pollution
      • Z77.11 contact with or suspected exposure to environmental pollution
      • Z77.29 contact with and (suspected) exposure to other hazardous substances.

​The testing options included above provide clarity about how to access resources that enable residents to make informed personal health decisions related to PFAS exposure. If you have concerns about PFAS exposure, consult with your healthcare provider to discuss the testing, implications of the results, and explore next steps, including the NASEM guidance included below. You may want to consult with your healthcare professional if you have been exposed to PFAS and are planning to donate blood, bear children or breastfeed, because these compounds can be transferred through these pathways.

  • Cooling Methods 
    • There are two basic cooling methods:  Conduction and Evaporation
    • Both methods require removing external clothing first.
      • Conduction involves immersion in cool water or the application of towels / sheets that have been soaked in cool water.  
      • Evaporation (mist + fan) involves wetting exposed skin and moving air across it to cause evaporative cooling.
